1. Optical Modem (ONT):

●Application scenario: Mainly used in fiber-to-the-user (FTTH) networks to convert optical signals into electrical signals to connect the local network of the user's home.

●Working principle: The optical modem is responsible for converting optical signals transmitted by optical fibers into electrical signals and providing interfaces so that user devices (such as routers and computers) can be connected to the optical fiber network.

●Signal type: Mainly involves the conversion between optical signals and electrical signals.

2. Fiber Converter:

●Application scenario: It can be used in various fiber optic communication scenarios, not limited to home networks. For example, it is used to connect two different types of optical fibers, or convert optical signals into different optical signal types.

●Working principle: The task of the fiber converter is to convert the properties of optical signals, which may involve modulation, demodulation or conversion between different standards of optical signals.

●Signal type: Mainly involves the conversion between optical signals, which may include the conversion of optical signals between different standards.

3. Modem:

●Application scenario: Mainly used in analog communication scenarios, such as telephone lines or cable networks, to convert digital signals into analog signals for transmission.

●Working principle: The modem performs the process of modulation (converting digital signals into analog signals) and demodulation (converting analog signals into digital signals) to support analog communication.

●Signal type: Mainly involves the conversion between digital signals and analog signals.

Why do they all involve signal conversion? This is because different communication media and devices may use different types of signals for communication. Through signal conversion, effective communication can be achieved between different devices and media. In optical fiber communication, optical signals are converted into electrical signals because most user devices (such as computers, routers) usually use electrical signals for communication and processing. Therefore, signal conversion is to adapt to different communication environments and equipment requirements.
